What is home and personal support?

Comcare provides support so that clients can live safely, comfortably, and independently in their own home. People who are recovering from surgery or who suffer from arthritis or other age-related physical problems sometimes find it hard to maintain their household. Tasks like grocery shopping, cleaning, and laundry may simply be impossible for them to do properly or safely.

People who have more serious physical limitations or a mobility issue may also need assistance with bathing, getting dressed, washing their hair, and so on. Personal care from Comcare focuses on these everyday routines and may also include medication reminders, meal preparation, and exercise programs.

If you’re not certain whether your situation calls for home care, personal care, or both, call Comcare at 1-800-663-5775 for a free in-home assessment.

Isn’t nursing care expensive?

Comcare provides a flexible and cost-effective solution to your needs. Our care plans are customized, so that the client uses only the services that are needed. Some people may require 24-hour supervision by a professional nurse while others might just need help with medications once or twice a day or someone to prepare meals for them.

A Comcare representative will assess your situation and work with you to develop a plan that meets your needs and budget. We can also tell you about any government or community-based assistance programs that may be available to you. Call 1-800-663-5775 to learn more.

Is home care covered by the government?

Your provincial government may cover all or a portion of your home care requirements. Each province has its own home care program, with eligibility determined by government regulations and individual need. Get more information on government funding. Based on eligibility, other government sources such as the Department of Veteran Affairs Canada may be able to help. If you qualify for government funding, you may not be billed for the Comcare services you receive. Instead, service delivery and payment are coordinated directly by the applicable government home care program and the care provider.

What if I don’t qualify for government-funded care?

Your personal insurance or employment-based group benefits may cover the costs associated with home care. If you have coverage that includes home care, service delivery and payment is coordinated directly with your insurance provider.

If some or all of the services you need are not covered by insurance and you are not eligible for government funding, you can arrange for private payments to cover the costs associated with personal home care services. Simply call your nearest Comcare branch to discuss your situation and payment options. Find a Comcare location near you.
